Instructor: Driver Education
Driving is probably one of the most important skills needed in today’s society. The present problems with traffic congestion require that everyone be a better driver than in years past.
Driver Education is a 9 week course for ½ credit. It must be taken with Dance. Students need to be in their sophomore year or above to take Driver Education and must have an Alabama permit.
There is a $30.00 fee to offset the cost of the course. Your child must have the fee paid before the driving phase begins.
The main objective of this class is to offer sound, fundamental instruction in safe driving techniques. This class is not offered as a “learn to drive” course. Your child will receive three hours of actual driving time and approximately six hours of driving on simulators. In addition to the driving time, your child will be receiving twenty hours of classroom instruction in the basics of safe driving and road rules. Each student will be given a Basic Boating course and take the Alabama Boating Test to help them in getting their vessel license.
Students may take advantage of the Third-Party Testing program in our school system. The Third-Party Testing program allows the driver education teacher to be a designated third-party testing agent of the Alabama Department of Public Safety to administer the driver portion of the licensing exam.

Driver Education class can help your child gain knowledge and skills that will help in the process of learning to drive, but in the time available it can not teach everything your child needs to know about driving. Remember, the best instructor is experience. In order for your child to become an adequate driver, he or she should be driving at every opportunity. The safety experts suggest thirty hours of behind the wheel driving before you even attempt the driving test.
